Job Description

Qualifications and Preferred Experience:

  • State certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Experience working with K-12 students with vision loss or impairment
  • Skilled in braille instruction, assistive technologies, and adaptive materials
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Familiarity with writing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse student needs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver individualized lesson plans tailored to students with visual impairments
  • Teach braille, use of assistive technology, and orientation and mobility skills as appropriate
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff to ensure classroom accessibility
  • Monitor student progress, document outcomes, and adjust instruction to optimize learning
  • Serve as a vital resource for students, families, and staff regarding best practices for supporting students with visual impairments
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to comprehensive student evaluations
