Qualifications and Preferred Experience:
- State certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working with K-12 students with vision loss or impairment
- Skilled in braille instruction, assistive technologies, and adaptive materials
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Familiarity with writing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse student needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver individualized lesson plans tailored to students with visual impairments
- Teach braille, use of assistive technology, and orientation and mobility skills as appropriate
- Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff to ensure classroom accessibility
- Monitor student progress, document outcomes, and adjust instruction to optimize learning
- Serve as a vital resource for students, families, and staff regarding best practices for supporting students with visual impairments
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to comprehensive student evaluations
