Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Previous experience working with visually impaired students in an educational setting
  • Strong understanding of braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility strategies
  • Ability to tailor instruction to meet individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with teachers, specialists, and families
  • Flexibility and creativity in developing engaging learning materials and experiences

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess student needs and develop individualized learning goals, modifying instruction as required
  • Provide direct instruction to students with a range of visual impairments, both within the classroom and individually
  • Consult with general education teachers to ensure accessible curriculum and adaptive strategies
  • Implement and train others on adaptive and assistive technologies
  • Monitor and document student progress, participating actively in IEP meetings and student support teams
  • Advocate for student access, independence, and success across all school settings
