Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid teaching certification with endorsement in Visual Impairment (or eligibility to obtain)
- Proven experience working as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in a school environment
- Familiarity with Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive devices for students with visual impairments
- Strong understanding of IEP processes and ability to design individualized educational plans
- Effective communication skills when collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, students, and parents
- Compassion, patience, and a genuine commitment to enhancing students independence and confidence
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments, both individually and in groups
- Assess students needs and adapt curriculum, materials, and instructional strategies accordingly
- Implement and support the use of assistive technology and Braille instruction
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records in compliance with state and federal requirements
- Participate in IEP meetings and provide expert input for accommodations, goals, and service needs
- Offer guidance and training to staff and families concerning best practices in visual impairment education
