Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- State certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working in a school setting with students who are blind or have low vision
- Familiarity with assistive technology, Braille, and tactile materials
- Strong collaboration and advocacy skills when working with families, teachers, and support staff
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to students needs
- Up-to-date knowledge of best practices and current trends in visual impairment education
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, both in class and individually
- Assess students needs and adjust teaching methods or materials as necessary
- Provide guidance to school staff on accessibility, adaptations, and inclusion strategies
- Support students progress in academic areas as well as orientation and mobility skills
- Create and maintain thorough documentation as required for IEPs and compliance
- Communicate regularly with families to update on progress and address concerns
