This full-time, onsite contract position is tailored for passionate educators ready to empower learners and foster independence in children with visual impairments during the upcoming 2026/2027 school year.
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
- Valid New York State Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) certification or eligibility to obtain one
- Previous experience teaching students with visual impairments preferred
- Strong communication skills, adaptability, and a growth mindset
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive student support
- Up-to-date knowledge of adaptive technology, Braille, and accessible instructional methods
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments, adapting curriculum and assessments as needed
- Evaluate students' functional vision and provide recommendations for instructional strategies
- Foster a supportive classroom environment that promotes independence and academic success
- Collaborate with general education staff and related service providers to ensure accommodations are in place
- Maintain accurate records, progress reports, and required documentation
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to student plans and goal-setting
