Job Description

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Knowledge of Braille instruction and adaptive technologies
  • Experience developing and adapting IEPs for students with visual impairments
  • Familiarity with the latest assistive tools, including screen readers and magnification devices
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills for effective collaboration with educators, students, and families
  • Ability to assess vision needs and tailor instruction for a variety of ability levels

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments across different grade levels
  • Develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs) to support student learning and progress
  • Collaborate with general and special education staff to ensure accommodations are meaningful and effective
  • Train students in the use of Braille, large print, tactile graphics, and assistive technology
  • Conduct functional vision assessments and recommend appropriate materials, equipment, and supports
  • Serve as a resource to faculty and family members, offering strategies and training for inclusive education
  • Advocate for accessibility within classroom settings and school activities
