Job Description

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Valid state certification or credential in Visual Impairment (or eligibility to obtain)
  • Experience teaching or working with students who are visually impaired, preferably in a school setting
  • Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive instructional materials
  • Compassionate communicator who works well with students, families, and staff
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple student caseloads and develop individualized education plans
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated on best practices

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct and consultative instructional support to students with visual impairments, both in individual and group settings
  • Assess students functional vision and learning needs, developing and implementing customized educational plans
  • Adapt general education materials and create accessible classroom resources
  • Teach skills for orientation and mobility, daily living, and use of assistive technology
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, families, and other professionals to ensure integrated support for each student
  • Maintain documentation, progress monitoring, and compliance with state and federal requirements
  • Advocate for students needs and participate in educational planning meetings
