Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or a related field
- Certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) required
- Experience working with school-aged children with visual impairments
- Familiarity with Braille, orientation and mobility concepts, and assistive technology
- Strong communication skills; ability to consult with teachers, staff, and families
- Capability to adapt instructional materials and strategies for diverse learners
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students functional vision and learning needs
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals focused on visual impairment
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, use of low vision devices, and daily living skills
- Modify classroom materials and collaborate with general education teachers
- Support orientation and mobility specialists and integrate strategies into the classroom
- Advocate for the use and maintenance of assistive technology
- Engage in consistent communication with parents, teachers, and related service professionals
