Empower students with visual impairments to reach their full academic and personal potential through dedicated instruction and thoughtful support. A contract opportunity is available for an experienced educator specializing in teaching students with visual impairments in the Anchorage, AK area.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification with an endorsement in Visual Impairment or equivalent
- Experience working with K12 students who are blind or visually impaired
- Strong understanding of adaptive technologies and accessible instructional strategies
- Proficiency in Braille instruction and tactile graphics
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and staff
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments in both one-on-one and small group settings
- Assess student needs and monitor progress, adapting instructional materials and methods as required
- Consult and collaborate with general education staff to ensure accommodations and modifications are effectively implemented
- Facilitate access to core curriculum by utilizing specialized materials, devices, and technology
- Support orientation and mobility goals in cooperation with related service providers
- Communicate regularly with families to update on progress, resources, and strategies
- Maintain compliance with all documentation and reporting requirements
