Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Certification or state licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Previous experience working with children or adolescents with visual impairments preferred
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to coordinate among educators, families, and support staff
- Knowledge of current assistive technologies and strategies in education for students with visual impairments
- Comfortable developing and modifying curriculum materials to suit individual learners
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, accessible learning environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instructional support to students with visual impairments across various grades
- Assess students needs and adapt learning resources, including Braille, large print, and accessible technologies
- Consult regularly with classroom teachers and special education team members to ensure accommodations are met
- Deliver orientation and mobility strategies as appropriate
- Communicate progress and strategies with families and advocate for students in IEP meetings
- Stay current on the latest best practices and innovations in vision education
