Job Description

Empower students to achieve their greatest potential by supporting K-12 learners as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired. This contract opportunity is part-time, approximately 5 hours per week, with an anticipated schedule from August 24, 2026, through June 3, 2027 (dates subject to change). While onsite support is preferred, candidates interested in providing virtual (VOCO) services will also be considered. Your expertise will make a profound difference for learners with visual impairments, ensuring they have access to a quality education and the specialized support they need to thrive.

Qualifications:

  • Active Michigan teaching license required (verify credentials via the Michigan Department of Education portal).
  • Experience or credentialing specifically in teaching students with visual impairments in school settings.
  • Comfortable working with K-12 students across a range of grade levels and abilities.
  • Proficient with adaptive technology and resources for visually impaired students.
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with educators, families, and support teams.
  • Ability to develop, adapt, and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and support for K-12 students with visual impairments in a classroom or virtual setting.
  • Collaborate with general and special education staff to modify curriculum and deliver appropriate accommodations.
  • Conduct assessments to determine students functional vision and learning needs.
  • Monitor and document student progress, adjusting interventions as needed.
  • Offer guidance, resources, and training to teachers and families regarding adaptive technology and instructional strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records in compliance with district and state requirements.
