An educational opportunity is available for an experienced Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing to serve in a school setting in Wichita, KS. This contract position focuses on providing specialized instruction and support to students with hearing impairments, fostering their academic growth and communication skills within an inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to the needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Utilize specialized instructional strategies and technologies to support language development and academic achievement
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech therapists, and families to ensure cohesive educational planning and support
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly
- Advocate for students access to resources and accommodations within the school setting
- Participate in professional development to stay current on best practices for deaf/hard of hearing education
Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure in Special Education with a focus on Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
- Experience working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing in an educational setting
- Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) preferred, but not required
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to assess and adapt instructional materials for diverse learning needs
