Key Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education (state-specific certification required)
  • Strong knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and/or Signed Exact English (SEE)
  • Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in an educational setting
  • Familiarity with IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers, families, and support staff
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students according to their IEPs, focusing on both academic content and language development
  • Adapt and modify curriculum materials for accessibility and growth
  • Use sign language and other communication modalities as needed
  • Consult with teachers, administrators, and parents to enhance student success
  • Monitor and document student progress, participating in IEP meetings and assessments
  • Foster a positive, supportive classroom environment that encourages independence
