Step into a meaningful role supporting students as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the Guilderland, NY area. This full-time, contract opportunity allows you to shape the academic and personal growth of young learners in a supportive, specialized environment. Working with both K-2 and 3-5 self-contained classrooms, youll collaborate with a dedicated educational team to deliver tailored instruction and empower students to achieve their fullest potential.
In this role, you will:
- Teach and support two self-contained classrooms: K-2 (6:1:2) and 3-5 (8:1:2)
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to each students unique communication and learning needs
- Foster a nurturing, inclusive classroom atmosphere that promotes social, academic, and language development
- Collaborate closely with speech-language pathologists, general education teachers, families, and other related service providers
- Use a variety of visual aids, technology, and assistive devices to enhance communication and learning
- Monitor student progress and provide regular updates to families and the educational team
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with state and federal requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (or eligibility for such certification)
- Experience working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing preferred
- Strong knowledge of Deaf culture, communication modalities, and assistive technology
- Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt curriculum for diverse learners
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Commitment to creating an accessible and supportive learning environment
