Make an impact by supporting students in their educational journey as a dedicated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. This full-time contract opportunity offers the chance to work with young learners in an engaging environment located near Troy, NY. With a focus on Kindergarten through fifth grade, youll work with self-contained classrooms designed to foster growth, self-expression, and confidence for students with hearing needs.
This role supports two caseloads: a K-2 self-contained 6:1:2 classroom and a 3-5 self-contained 8:1:2 classroom. As a valued educator in this setting, youll have the resources and collaboration needed to help students achieve their fullest potential. Compensation for this role is $50 per hour.
Desired Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Experience or strong interest in self-contained classroom settings
- Familiarity with American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication modalities for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
- Strong ability to differentiate instruction and create individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for inclusive education
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with other educators and service providers
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement effective lesson plans tailored for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students in K-2 and 3-5 self-contained classrooms
- Support language development, academic growth, and social-emotional skills
- Work closely with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams to monitor progress and adjust strategies as needed
- Advocate for students needs, ensuring access to appropriate supports, accommodations, and resources
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with educational guidelines
