A school in Tacoma, WA, is seeking a skilled Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing to join their educational team on a contract basis. This role focuses on supporting students with hearing impairments, providing specialized instruction and fostering an inclusive learning environment. The ideal candidate will have experience working with deaf or hard of hearing students and the ability to tailor teaching strategies to meet individual needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction tailored to the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and families to create and implement effective educational plans
- Use assistive technologies and specialized communication methods to enhance learning
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly
- Advocate for students access to curriculum and school activities
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to student performance and needs
Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure specific to teaching students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Experience working in K-12 educational settings with students who have hearing impairments
- Strong knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication approaches preferred
- Ability to develop individualized education programs (IEPs)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
