Job Description

This opportunity is for an experienced educator specializing in supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Based in Stayton, OR, this contract position involves working within a school setting to provide tailored instruction and support to enhance students' educational experiences and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement specialized lesson plans suited for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech therapists, and support staff to accommodate students needs
  • Utilize assistive technologies and communication strategies to facilitate learning
  • Conduct assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Provide counseling and guidance to students and families regarding hearing loss and educational strategies
  • Maintain detailed records of student development and progress
  • Participate in IEP (Individualized Education Program) meetings and contribute expertise

Qualifications:

  • Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing
  • Experience working with deaf or hard of hearing students in a school environment
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) is highly preferred
  • Strong understanding of auditory and visual communication techniques
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to diverse learning styles
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with educators, parents, and students
