Job Description

A specialized opportunity is available for a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing to support student success within a school setting in Spartanburg, SC. This contract role focuses on providing tailored educational support and communication strategies to students with hearing impairments, ensuring an inclusive and accessible learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Develop and adapt curriculum and teaching materials to meet diverse auditory and communication needs.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other support staff to implement effective educational plans.
  • Utilize assistive technologies and communication methods such as sign language and auditory training to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain detailed records to inform instruction and reporting.
  • Advocate for students needs within the school community and provide resources to families.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certification or licensure in Deaf Education or as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
  • Experience working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing in educational settings.
  • Strong knowledge of communication methods including American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Ability to create adaptive learning environments and individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills to work with multidisciplinary teams.
