An exciting contract opportunity is available for a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing in Sitka, Alaska. This role focuses on providing specialized instruction and support to students with hearing impairments within a school setting. The ideal candidate will be skilled in delivering tailored educational strategies to help students thrive academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with hearing loss
- Utilize assistive listening devices and technology to enhance learning
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and families to support student growth
- Conduct assessments and monitor student progress regularly
- Provide direct instruction in speech, language, and auditory skills as needed
- Advocate for the needs of students with hearing impairments within the school community
Qualifications & Experience:
- Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing
- Experience working with children who have varying degrees of hearing loss
- Knowledge of auditory-verbal therapy, American Sign Language (ASL), or other communication methods preferred
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with educators and families
- Understanding of educational strategies and technology used in deaf education
