An exciting contract opportunity awaits a dedicated educator skilled in teaching American Sign Language (ASL) and providing support to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. This full-time position centers on assisting high school learners near Schaumburg and Algonquin, IL, blending ASL instruction with guidance across core academic subjects.
Youll have the chance to foster communication and confidence in students, ensuring equal access to educational experiences and supporting both their academic and personal growth.
Qualifications & Experience:
- State certification to teach Deaf/Hard of Hearing students or ASL (or eligibility for certification)
- Proven experience teaching ASL at the high school or secondary level preferred
- Comfortable adapting curriculum for diverse learning needs and communication preferences
- Strong classroom management and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills
- Commitment to promoting an accessible and inclusive learning environment
- Passion for empowering students with Deaf/Hard of Hearing identities
Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging ASL and core subject instruction tailored to varied student needs
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, interpreters, and school staff to facilitate accommodations and modifications
- Design lessons and materials that promote language acquisition, literacy, and subject comprehension
- Track student progress and provide detailed feedback and support to meet IEP goals
- Serve as an advocate for students, supporting their social-emotional development and fostering an accepting classroom culture
- Communicate regularly with families and fellow educators regarding student achievements and needs
