Job Description

Empower students by supporting access to education as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for the full academic year. This contract opportunity focuses on providing meaningful instruction and advocacy for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in a supportive educational setting near Scarborough, ME. Qualifications & Experience:

  • Certification or eligibility as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (state requirements may apply)
  • Proven experience teaching students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing is highly preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is essential
  • Ability to design and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, families, and school staff
  • Passion for helping students achieve their highest potential

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing utilizing ASL and other appropriate communication modes
  • Adapt general education curriculum and methodologies to meet individual student needs
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other support staff
  • Monitor student progress, assess learning outcomes, and update IEPs as needed
  • Offer support and resources to classroom teachers to enhance the inclusion of students in the general education environment
  • Engage families in their childs education and communicate regularly about progress
