An opportunity is available for an experienced Teacher specializing in Deaf and Hard of Hearing education. This role is based in Putnam, CT, within a school setting and offers a contract position. The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting students with hearing impairments and the expertise to deliver specialized instruction tailored to their unique learning needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Provide direct instruction and support in auditory and speech development, as well as language acquisition
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and families to enhance student success
- Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting teaching strategies as needed
- Facilitate communication access and promote inclusive learning environments
Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Proven experience working with students who have hearing impairments
- Strong knowledge of assistive listening devices and communication methods such as ASL and speechreading
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
