Job Description
Empower students and make a difference as an itinerant educator focusing on learners who are deaf or hard of hearing. In this full-time contract role (37.5 hours per week, August 24th through June 4th, 2027), youll work across various school settings near Portsmouth, VA, directly impacting students from diverse age groups. You'll collaborate with dedicated teams to deliver individualized instruction and tailor educational experiences that meet each students unique needs.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Current Virginia Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certification (required)
- Demonstrated expertise in direct instruction for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Proficiency in diverse communication methods, including ASL, spoken language, auditory training, or total communication
- Experience developing and implementing IEPs collaboratively
- Strong ability to adapt curriculum and materials for accessibility, including knowledge of assistive listening and AAC technologies
- Commitment to supporting student self-advocacy, social skills, and independence
- Ability to assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
- Effective collaboration with general education, SLPs, audiologists, and other professionals
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct academic, communication, and functional support to students in alignment with IEP goals
- Adapt curriculum and classroom environments to support access and inclusion
- Regularly monitor, evaluate, and document student progress
- Consult with general education teams to foster successful classroom integration
- Maintain consistent usage and support of hearing technologies
- Serve as an advocate for students and provide guidance to families and staff on best practices
