Job Description

Make a meaningful impact in the classroom by supporting students as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in a welcoming educational environment near Cheshire, MA. This contract position provides the opportunity to foster growth and inclusion for K-12 students with varying degrees of hearing loss. The role involves working collaboratively with general education teachers, specialists, and families to create engaging, accessible, and differentiated learning experiences tailored to each students needs.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Valid Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) certification in Massachusetts
  • Strong understanding of child development and diverse learning styles
  • Experience or familiarity using assistive technology, American Sign Language (ASL), and instructional adaptations for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing population
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
  • Previous experience in a school-based setting with K-12 students preferred

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in K-12 classrooms
  • Modify curriculum and integrate communication strategies to ensure equal access to learning
  • Participate in IEP meetings, student assessments, and progress reporting
  • Consult with staff to support accommodations and effective teaching strategies in inclusive classrooms
  • Work closely with families to promote student success both at school and at home
  • Advocate for student needs and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
