Job Description

A school district in Pasco, WA is seeking a dedicated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to join their team on a contract basis. This role focuses on providing specialized instruction and support to students with hearing impairments, ensuring they receive an accessible and inclusive educational experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Utilize specialized teaching strategies and assistive technology to support student learning and communication
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and families to monitor student progress and adapt instruction accordingly
  • Provide direct instruction in speech, language, listening skills, and social development
  • Facilitate integration of students into general education settings while addressing accessibility needs
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student progress and interventions

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification with an endorsement or specialization in Deaf Education or Teaching Students who are Hard of Hearing
  • Experience working with school-aged children who have hearing impairments
  • Knowledge of educational practices, assessment tools, and assistive technologies for deaf and hard of hearing students
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to adapt instructional methods to meet diverse learning needs
