Job Description
Make a significant impact in the lives of high school students by supporting their academic journey as an ASL Teacher or Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. This full-time, contract role centers on providing both American Sign Language (ASL) and core subject instruction to high school students. Based near Palatine, IL, you will bring accessible, engaging education to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in the Algonquin area.
What youll bring:
- State certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing Education or ASL teaching credentials
- Proficiency in American Sign Language
- Previous experience working with deaf and hard of hearing students in a high school setting
- Ability to adapt core curriculum and develop lesson plans that support diverse learning styles
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, staff, and families
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver direct ASL instruction and core academic content support to high school students
- Assess individual student needs and tailor instruction accordingly
- Foster an inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and confidence
- Collaborate with general education teachers and other specialists to ensure accommodations and modifications are implemented
- Monitor and document student progress, adjusting teaching strategies as necessary
- Participate in IEP meetings, providing valuable insight into student goals and needs
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents and caregivers to support student growth
