A school district in Olathe, KS is seeking a skilled Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing to provide specialized instruction and support to students with hearing impairments. This contract position offers an opportunity to work directly with students, families, and educational teams to promote academic success and communication development in an inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to students' hearing and communication needs.
- Provide direct instruction using appropriate methodologies, including auditory/oral, sign language, and assistive technologies.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other specialists to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies.
- Conduct assessments and monitor student progress, adjusting instruction as needed.
- Support students social and emotional growth and advocate for necessary accommodations within the school setting.
- Engage families through regular communication and training to foster effective home-school partnerships.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid teaching certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education or equivalent licensure.
- Experience working with children who have hearing impairments across various age groups.
- Strong knowledge of communication modes and assistive devices used by Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills with students, families, and educational teams.
- Ability to manage caseloads and maintain detailed records of student progress.
