Job Description

A school is seeking a qualified professional to serve as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing in Olathe, KS. This contract position offers the opportunity to work with students who have hearing impairments, providing specialized instruction and support to enhance their educational experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized educational programs tailored to the needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure effective communication and academic progress.
  • Utilize assistive listening devices and other technology to facilitate access to the curriculum.
  • Conduct assessments to monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Provide auditory and speech training to support language development.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the planning and evaluation of student goals.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification relevant to Deaf/Hard of Hearing education.
  • Experience teaching students with hearing impairments in a school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of communication methodologies including sign language and auditory-oral approaches.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
