Make a meaningful impact supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a dynamic, inclusive educational setting. This full-time contract opportunity runs from August 24th, 2026 to June 4th, 2027 and is based near Norfolk, VA. The role offers an itinerant schedule serving multiple campuses, focusing on providing direct instruction and specialized support across academic, communication, and functional domains aligned with each student's IEP goals.
What youll bring:
- Current Virginia Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certification
- Experience as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing in school settings
- Proficiency in ASL, spoken language, auditory training, and/or total communication approaches
- Ability to adapt curriculum and materials for accessibility, including use of assistive technologies
- Strong skills in collaborating with families, general educators, and a multidisciplinary team
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to students ages PreK-12, addressing individualized goals in academics and communication
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in partnership with families and staff
- Assess and document student progress using both formal and informal tools, adjusting instruction as needed
- Facilitate inclusive practices by consulting with general education teachers and recommending classroom strategies
- Coach students in self-advocacy, social skills, and independent functioning
- Collaborate closely with audiologists, SLPs, and other specialists to maximize hearing technology effectiveness and ensure consistent student support
