Job Description

This contract position offers the unique chance to make a significant difference in the lives of students while working within a collaborative school environment. The role is based near Joliet, IL, with school hours from 7:30am to 3:00pm.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid state teaching certification with Deaf/Hard of Hearing endorsement
  • Experience teaching or supporting Deaf or Hard of Hearing students, especially at the high school level
  • Proficiency with sign language (ASL) and/or other modes of communication for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing community
  • Strong ability to develop and modify individualized educational plans (IEPs)
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with students, families, and staff
  • Positive attitude, adaptability, and a commitment to inclusive education

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction and academic support to high school students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and related service providers to facilitate full classroom participation
  • Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to meet individual student needs and IEP objectives
  • Foster a supportive, accessible, and interactive learning environment
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and needs
  • Advocate for students accessibility and educational rights within the school community
