Open the door to a rewarding educational career supporting high school students as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. This contract position offers the unique chance to make a significant difference in the lives of students while working within a collaborative school environment. The role is based near Joliet, IL, with school hours from 7:30am to 3:00pm.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid state teaching certification with Deaf/Hard of Hearing endorsement
- Experience teaching or supporting Deaf or Hard of Hearing students, especially at the high school level
- Proficiency with sign language (ASL) and/or other modes of communication for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing community
- Strong ability to develop and modify individualized educational plans (IEPs)
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with students, families, and staff
- Positive attitude, adaptability, and a commitment to inclusive education
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and academic support to high school students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Collaborate with general education teachers and related service providers to facilitate full classroom participation
- Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to meet individual student needs and IEP objectives
- Foster a supportive, accessible, and interactive learning environment
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and needs
- Advocate for students accessibility and educational rights within the school community
