Job Description

An educational institution in Maple Valley, WA, is seeking a skilled Teacher for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. This contract position involves providing specialized instructional support to students with hearing impairments, helping them achieve academic success and develop essential communication skills.

Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering tailored instruction to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students based on individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Collaborating with classroom teachers, speech-language pathologists, and audiologists to support student learning
  • Implementing accommodations and assistive technologies to enhance student access to the curriculum
  • Monitoring student progress and maintaining accurate records of academic performance and communication development
  • Engaging with families to provide guidance, resources, and updates on student progress
  • Participating in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in Deaf education

Qualifications:

  • Certification or licensure in Deaf Education or Teaching Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing
  • Experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in a school environment
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) is highly preferred
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Understanding of assistive listening devices and auditory learning strategies
  • Ability to create inclusive and supportive learning environments
