Job Description
A school district in Manteca, CA is seeking a skilled Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing to support students with hearing impairments. This contract position involves working closely with students to develop their communication skills and academic abilities while collaborating with educators and families to ensure an inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing specialized instruction tailored to the unique needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
- Developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in coordination with multidisciplinary teams
- Utilizing assistive technologies and communication strategies to enhance learning and participation
- Collaborating with classroom teachers, speech therapists, and support staff to promote student success
- Assessing student progress and adjusting teaching methods accordingly
- Offering guidance and support to families regarding communication options and educational resources
Qualifications and desired experience:
- Valid teaching credential with certification or endorsement in Deaf Education or related field
- Experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in a K-12 educational setting
- Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication modalities preferred
- Strong understanding of audiology, speech, and language development principles
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and effectively communicate with families
