A specialized opportunity is available for a dedicated Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing in Manhattan, Kansas. This contract position focuses on supporting students with hearing impairments in an educational setting, providing tailored instruction and services to enhance their learning experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction tailored to students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Develop and implement curriculum adjustments and accommodations based on students IEPs (Individualized Education Programs)
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other educational staff to support student success
- Utilize assistive technologies and communication methods such as sign language or auditory training to facilitate learning
- Monitor and assess students progress, maintaining detailed records and reporting to parents and administration
- Provide training and resources to staff and families to promote understanding of hearing loss and effective communication strategies
Qualifications and Experience:
- Certification or licensure in the field of Deaf Education or Hearing Impairments
- Experience teaching students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a school setting
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication methods appropriate for deaf education
- Strong knowledge of educational technologies and strategies for hearing-impaired learners
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with students, families, and colleagues
