This opportunity is for a Teacher specializing in Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, devoted to fostering an inclusive learning environment that supports diverse communication needs. Located in Macomb, MI, this contract position offers the chance to make a meaningful difference in the educational experience of students with hearing impairments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Utilize a variety of communication methods including sign language, auditory training, and speech therapy techniques.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to promote student success and accessibility.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
- Facilitate the use of assistive technologies and hearing devices in the classroom.
- Conduct assessments to identify students strengths and areas needing support.
- Provide strategies and training for peers and teachers to cultivate an inclusive classroom culture.
Required Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure in teaching Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
- Experience working with K-12 students with hearing disabilities.
- Strong knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication methods.
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Passion for advocating for students with special needs.
