Step into an impactful educational role supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in a welcoming school environment near Jackson, MI. As a contracted Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, you will foster communication, confidence, and academic growth for students at various grade levels. You'll serve as an essential partner to both students and school staff, ensuring equity and accessibility in learning.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid state certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH)
- Bachelors degree in Deaf Education or a closely related field (Masters preferred)
- Strong grasp of current instructional strategies for DHH students
- Proficiency with American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication modalities
- Ability to collaborate effectively with classroom teachers, support staff, and families
- Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Compassionate approach with a commitment to creating inclusive learning environments
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with students individually and in small groups to address unique communication and academic needs
- Adapt curriculum and instructional materials to support accessibility
- Partner with teachers and staff to modify classroom practices and ensure appropriate accommodations
- Monitor student progress, maintaining detailed records and contributing to IEP meetings and reviews
- Provide advocacy and guidance for students and their families within the educational system
- Engage in professional development to stay current with best practices in Deaf Education
