Job Description

This full-time, contract role runs from August 24th, 2026, through June 4th, 2027, offering you the chance to work itinerantly across multiple schools. Youll deliver direct instruction to K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, making a real difference in their academic journey and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging instruction across academic, communication, and functional skill areas in alignment with students IEP goals
  • Design, implement, and monitor individualized education programs in collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams
  • Adapt and modify curriculum, instructional materials, and learning environments for optimal accessibility, including use of assistive listening devices and AAC systems
  • Teach and support various communication methods (such as ASL, auditory training, spoken language, total communication) based on individual student needs
  • Assess student progress using both formal and informal tools, revising instruction as needed
  • Partner with general education staff to promote classroom inclusion, provide accommodations, and facilitate effective strategies
  • Encourage self-advocacy, support social skill development, and foster students independence
  • Coordinate with audiologists, SLPs, and additional specialists to maintain consistency in hearing technology and classroom supports

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Valid Virginia Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certification required
  • Experience and/or passion for working as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (all age groups welcomed)
  • Familiarity with developing and tracking IEPs and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
  • Expertise in adaptive teaching methods, technology use, and various communication methods for students with hearing loss
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and advocacy skills
