Make a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners as a full-time Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for an elementary program. This rewarding contract position is situated near Dearborn, MI, providing the opportunity to work closely with a small caseload of five students, each deserving individualized support to unlock their full potential.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education
- Experience or strong interest working with elementary-aged children
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other relevant communication modalities
- Ability to implement IEP goals and adapt curriculum materials for accessibility
- Strong collaboration skills for working with general education teachers, support staff, and families
- Passion for fostering self-advocacy and communication skills in students
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct and consultative instruction to a caseload of five elementary students with hearing differences
- Create and adapt educational materials, ensuring accessibility for all learning levels
- Conduct assessments and progress monitoring, adjusting instruction to meet individual needs
- Support students in developing literacy, language, and social skills
- Participate in IEP meetings, progress reviews, and parent conferences
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and related service providers to facilitate inclusion and support learning objectives
- Serve as a resource to staff and families, promoting an inclusive school environment
