Make a meaningful impact supporting young learners as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in a full-time contract position. Situated close to Clifton Park, NY, this opportunity allows you to work within dedicated classrooms: a K-2 self-contained 6:1:2 environment and a 3-5 self-contained 8:1:2 setting. Your expertise will help shape a nurturing learning atmosphere where students with hearing differences develop confidence and achieve their educational goals. This position offers a rewarding pay rate of $50 per hour.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Current certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Experience working with K-5 students, particularly in self-contained or specialized classroom settings
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Strong interpersonal communication skills to work collaboratively with students, staff, and families
- Ability to individualize and adapt lesson plans to match student needs and IEP goals
- Passion for advocating for students with hearing loss and promoting inclusive practices
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging, tailored instruction to small groups in self-contained classrooms
- Assess student progress and implement individual education plans (IEPs)
- Foster a positive, supportive classroom environment that encourages social and academic growth
- Collaborate with classroom aides, related service providers, and families to maximize student success
- Provide resources, guidance, and training on effective communication strategies for staff and parents
- Create and adapt educational materials accessible to students with varying degrees of hearing loss
