Step into a rewarding opportunity working directly with students as a Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. This contract role focuses on supporting students in both elementary/middle and high school settings for the upcoming academic year. As a valued member in this position, youll deliver impactful instruction in core English and math subjects, utilizing specialized skills to foster an inclusive, accessible environment.
In this on-site position, your expertise in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) education will empower students to thrive academically and socially. Your daily schedule will consist of a steady 35 hours each week, beginning in mid-August and continuing through late May. The specific school campus assignments will be provided prior to the start date.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Undergraduate degree in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) education required; Masters degree preferred
- Valid Texas Educator Certification specific to DHH
- Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) to be assessed during interview
- Experience teaching students who are deaf or hard of hearing, particularly in core English or math
- Ability to provide relevant certification/licensure documents and professional references
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging, accessible instruction in English and math to students across designated grade levels
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet individual student needs, focusing on language acquisition and academic growth
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families
- Create a positive, supportive classroom environment, ensuring the effective use of ASL and other communication modes
- Participate in IEP meetings and help guide students toward their academic and personal goals
