Job Description
Empower young learners by supporting their communication and academic growth as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in a welcoming educational environment. This full-time contract position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference working with elementary students in self-contained K-2 (6:1:2) and 3-5 (8:1:2) classrooms. Youll collaborate with a dedicated team to create accessible learning experiences, fostering independence and achievement for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing specialized instruction tailored to individual student needs in K-2 and 3-5 classrooms.
- Creating and adapting educational materials using visual, auditory, and tactile approaches.
- Collaborating closely with general education staff, speech-language pathologists, and families.
- Developing and monitoring Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in accordance with best practices.
- Supporting language development, communication skills, and social-emotional learning.
- Utilizing a variety of assistive technologies to enhance student engagement and access.
- Participating in professional development to stay current with evidence-based strategies and advocacy for Deaf culture.
Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (or eligibility).
- Experience or strong understanding of diverse communication modes, including ASL, oral, and total communication approaches.
- Familiarity with developing and implementing IEPs.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and communicative classroom environment.
- Strong collaborative skills to partner with multidisciplinary teams and families.
