Make a difference in the lives of students by providing specialized instructional support as a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing. This contract role is designed for an educator dedicated to fostering an inclusive, accessible learning environment for students with varying degrees of hearing loss. The ideal candidate brings both technical expertise and a passion for empowering young learners to achieve their fullest potential.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid teaching certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, preferably in a school setting
- Strong understanding of assistive technology and auditory/oral, total communication, or American Sign Language (ASL) methodologies
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with students, families, and school staff
- Ability to develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Adaptability and creative problem-solving skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instructional services to students based on IEP goals and individual needs
- Utilize a variety of communication modalities and instructional strategies to support student learning
- Collaborate with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other professionals to create an inclusive classroom environment
- Support students in accessing curricular content and developing social, self-advocacy, and communication skills
- Conduct assessments and regularly monitor student progress, adjusting interventions as needed
- Offer consultation and training to staff and families to enhance understanding of hearing loss and effective strategies
