Job Description

This role centers on two self-contained classes: a 6:1:2 classroom for kindergarten through second grade and an 8:1:2 classroom serving grades three through five. Your specialized skills and compassionate approach will help foster language development, academic growth, and strong social-emotional foundations. The position offers $50 per hour, recognizing your valuable contribution and experience.

Preferred Background & Credentials:

  • Valid New York State certification as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
  • Experience or coursework in deaf education, language development, and classroom management
  • Knowledge of assistive technology and accommodations for students with hearing loss
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication modalities used in deaf education
  • Ability to individualize instruction and collaborate within a team of special educators and related service providers

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement engaging, differentiated lesson plans in alignment with IEPs
  • Provide direct instruction to students in self-contained K-2 and 3-5 classrooms
  • Collaborate closely with speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and other specialists
  • Foster a nurturing classroom environment that supports communication and independence
  • Engage with families and staff to track progress and celebrate student achievements
