Job Description
Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity supporting high school students who require specialized instruction and care. This position is designed for Special Education Teachers passionate about making a difference in a self-contained or sub-separate classroom setting, focusing on students with Emotional or Behavioral Disorders (EBD) and significant behavioral challenges. You'll work in a collaborative environment with other dedicated professionals, guiding students toward academic and personal success through individualized interventions and support. The assignment starts as soon as possible and extends through June 18, 2027, offering long-term stability and the chance to truly impact young lives.
Key Qualifications:
- Possess a valid Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Special Education license for Secondary grade levels
- Compliance with Right to Read Act: Certified in, or willing to complete, Rhode Island Structured Literacy proficiency within one year of hire
- Demonstrated experience working with high school students, especially those with complex behavioral needs
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to implement effective behavioral interventions
- Effective communication abilities with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and small-group instruction in a self-contained high school classroom
- Develop and implement IEPs tailored to the unique needs of each student
- Employ proactive behavior management and evidence-based instructional strategies
- Maintain thorough records of student progress and regularly update stakeholders
- Collaborate with general education teachers, counselors, and paraprofessionals to provide holistic support
- Engage with families and caregivers to encourage student growth and school connection
