Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- Active Michigan Special Education teaching certification in Cognitive Impairment (CI) or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (please ensure license is current and included in your application)
- Previous experience teaching elementary students, especially in ASD or CI classrooms, is highly valued
- Strong classroom management and differentiation skills
- Ability to develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Collaborative mindset with excellent communication skills to engage with families, support staff, and multidisciplinary teams
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive learning atmosphere
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead instruction in two self-contained Elementary ASD-CI classrooms
- Provide targeted support in one Elementary Resource Room setting
- Assess student abilities, set measurable goals, and tailor instruction to individualized needs
- Maintain thorough and timely documentation, including IEPs and progress reports
- Engage proactively with colleagues in developing strategies and interventions for student success
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and support plans
