Job Description

This full-time position is for a Special Education Teacher in an elementary school setting, located in Augusta, Maine. The role is a contract assignment for the 2023-2024 school year, requiring 37.5 hours per week from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with occasional later afternoons for IEP meetings or bi-monthly staff meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction to students with diverse learning needs in accordance with individualized education programs (IEPs).
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and families to support student success.
  • Conduct assessments and document student progress.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to developing and updating students educational goals.
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment aligned with best practices in special education.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Maine Special Education License required:
    • 282B Early Childhood Special Education (Birth5), or
    • 282E Special Education (K8), or
    • 282 Certification.
  • Experience working with elementary-age students in a special education setting preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and families.
