Job Description

A full-time Special Education teaching opportunity is available from mid-September through December, covering a maternity leave at an elementary school serving third-grade students. This role involves working Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing targeted support to students requiring specialized instruction within a supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized instruction and support to third-grade students with diverse learning needs.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to implement and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies to foster academic, social, and emotional growth.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to a positive, inclusive classroom culture.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a Rhode Island Special Education Teacher Certification.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students, preferably in third grade.
  • Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Ability to collaborate with paras and other support personnel.
  • Effective communication skills and a passion for student-centered instruction.

Location: Portsmouth, Rhode Island

Additional Details: This contract position replaces a teacher on maternity leave and requires a commitment through December. The school provides supervision through support staff, enhancing a collaborative work environment.
