Job Description

Located in Trenton, NJ, this contract opportunity is for two Pre-K to 1st-grade teachers in a specialized Autism classroom setting designed to support non-verbal students. Each self-contained classroom serves approximately 6 students with the assistance of 2 paraprofessionals. The program features six similar classrooms staffed by a collaborative interdisciplinary team including a BCBA, Occupational Therapist (OT), Physical Therapist (PT), and others to provide comprehensive support.

This role focuses on a high-needs student population with an emphasis on fostering functional behavior and communication skills to promote student growth and independence. Candidates should have experience working with non-verbal children and be committed to implementing effective strategies tailored to individual student needs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering specialized instruction aligned with students individualized education programs (IEPs)
  • Promoting communication and social skills development using evidence-based practices
  • Collaborating closely with paraprofessionals and therapeutic team members to create a supportive learning environment
  • Monitoring and documenting student progress and adapting teaching approaches accordingly
  • Supporting behavioral growth through positive reinforcement techniques

Qualifications:

  • Valid New Jersey teaching certification: TOSD + PreK-3 or TOH
  • Proven experience working with students on the Autism spectrum, specifically non-verbal learners
  • Strong understanding of applied behavioral strategies and functional communication
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment

Hours are aligned with elementary school times, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
