Job Description

An opportunity is available for a Special Education Teacher to support elementary students in a full academic year contract within a district in Schenectady, NY. This position involves working with a caseload of approximately 20 students and providing dedicated special education support during the school year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine student needs.
  • Deliver direct special education instruction tailored to individual student IEPs.
  • Participate in and contribute to Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and district policies.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other educational professionals to support student success.
  • Manage documentation and reporting related to student progress and services provided.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Hold a valid New York State teaching license in Special Education.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students in a special education setting.
  • Strong knowledge of assessment tools, evaluation procedures, and individualized instruction methods.
  • Ability to manage a caseload effectively and coordinate care within a district framework.
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging with students, families, and educators.
  • Willingness to participate in paid travel time when applicable.

Schedule and Location:

  • Position located in Schenectady, NY.
  • Contract runs through the 2025-2026 school year.
  • Approximately 10 hours per week, itinerant services within the district.
