Job Description
Make a significant difference as a Special Education teacher supporting students in self-contained Language/Autism units at elementary schools in a vibrant educational community. This contract opportunity runs from August 4, 2026, through May 26, 2027, and provides a collaborative environment focused on student growth and individualized learning.
Youll guide students in classrooms ranging from grades K-5, working closely with dedicated paraeducators (35 per unit, depending on assignment) and supportive school leadership. Opportunities are available at multiple campuses, each fostering inclusion and creativity.
Qualifications:
- Valid Special Education Teacher certification (SPED Licensure required; see Alabama State Department of Education verification site)
- Prior teaching experience in special education, especially within self-contained or language/autism classrooms, is strongly preferred
- Skilled in creating individualized instruction plans, managing diverse needs, and communicating effectively with paras, staff, and families
- Strong problem-solving, adaptability, and organizational skills
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engaging, student-centered lessons tailored to individual IEP goals
- Foster an inclusive atmosphere that promotes positive peer relationships and social-emotional development
- Collaborate with educational teams, including paraprofessionals and school leaders, to support student achievement
- Maintain accurate records, monitor student progress, and participate in IEP meetings
- Communicate consistently with families regarding student development and classroom activities
