Job Description

A Special Education teaching opportunity is available for a full-time, long-term substitute position from mid-September through December in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. This assignment supports a third-grade elementary classroom and is ideal for educators with a passion for inclusive learning and individualized student support.

Location: Portsmouth, RI
Assignment Type: Travel; long-term substitute
Start Date: Mid-September 2024
End Date: December 2024 (Maternity Leave Coverage)
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM 3:30 PM
Classroom: One elementary school, third-grade special education

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction tailored to students Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in a third-grade classroom
  • Collaborate with classroom support staff, including paraprofessionals and instructional aides, to enhance student learning and behavior management
  • Monitor and document student progress and communicate effectively with parents and multidisciplinary teams
  • Implement accommodations and modifications consistent with legal and district guidelines
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities as required

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid Rhode Island Special Education Teacher Certification
  • Previous experience teaching elementary-age students with diverse learning needs
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to adapt lessons to meet individual student goals and foster a supportive classroom environment
  • Commitment to professional ethics and collaboration
