Job Description

A full-time Special Education teaching opportunity is available for a long-term leave assignment at an elementary school in Portsmouth, RI. This position covers a third-grade classroom from mid-September through December, supporting students with special needs during a maternity leave. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instruction and support to third-grade students with diverse learning needs
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and administration to create individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies to meet their unique goals
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning and growth
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student achievements and challenges

Qualifications:

  • Rhode Island Special Education Teacher Certification is required
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children in a special education setting
  • Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage a full caseload within a structured school day
